AI Makes You More Useful

AI will make humans more useful, not less useful, and certainly not useless.

Everyone from Bill Gates to me to probably you is questioning their value as a productive human in society based on how AI is and will continue to replace human jobs.

AI might indeed make some of your skill sets less relevant, but it doesn't make you less relevant.

You know when AI gives a totally wrong answer that an expert in that field would never say? That's because it doesn't understand what it's saying to an extent a human would. How much current AI understands what it says is debatable, but a human has a far better understanding of what he/she says.

AI is much much more knowledgeable than any individual human. Even in a specific field, ChatGPT is much more knowledgeable about that field than any individual expert in that field.

But, a human is much more intelligent than any AI. Knowledge allows for an intelligence to be much more useful, but knowledge and intelligence are semi-independent faculties.

There are a limitless number of financially productive ventures that aren't even being explored in any economy. AI will give humans (including employees, employers, entrepreneurs, and politicians) the opportunity to pursue more of those ventures through leverage (in the form of automated labor).

Artificial general intelligence (AGI) would be a different story, but I think we are very far from any form of AGI, but it's unclear how far.
