Today is Earth Day. Want to help the planet and make money at the same time? Sell your bitcoin. Lower bitcoin prices reduce incentives for horribly inefficient, energy-intensive mining activity.
The below posts are from oldest to most recent. They are posts I originally made from my LinkedIn account. 2025-07-02 LinkedIn Post Would you rather lose everything except 1 hour of your time, or get infinite money but lose all your time.Losing everything except 1 hour of your time is infinitely better. No matter who you are, your time is your base resource. 2025-07-04 LinkedIn Post Open source AIs are very important toward ensuring the good future of AI.As I discuss at EAGI.fyi, the one good and two bad possible futures of AI will be determined by who gets access to…
Ether (the currency of Ethereum) is to bitcoin, what bitcoin is to gold.Ethereum is far from the only blockchain that has these modern features, but I’ll just focus on ether vs. bitcoin.PoW (what Bitcoin uses) uses billions of dollars in energy toward solving useless math problems. Bitcoin holders indirectly pay miners to burn their money. PoS (what Ethereum uses instead of PoW) is cost efficient and benefits holders. Ether holders can outpace ether inflation through staking their Ether (which anyone can easily do like depositing money into a Savings account). Bitcoin is always slightly inflationary (until the network stops producing…
Whether you realize it or not, the two most daunting, ever-present, and impactful problems you’ll ever encounter in business are how you should spend your time and how you can improve how you spend your time. How You Should Spend Your Time: Time is the resource of resources. Spending any other resource also requires spending time. How you spend it determines everything. How You Can Improve How You Spend Your Time: You are either evolving or devolving. You either have a positive feedback loop or a negative feedback loop. Outside of the death of the individual/company, there is nothing that a strong…
Boredom is the most painful emotion someone can feel, but it’s very easy to remedy and it is usually only felt in small doses.Horror movies can be very entertaining. Even very sad and depressing movies can be. But, there’s never been an entertaining boring movie.Pain tolerance isn’t just about the ability to handle stress and other exhilarating emotions. It’s also about the ability to persevere through boredom.(A person can’t feel a quantity of boredom near what they can feel in sadness, stress, etc., so boredom is not the most painful emotion in that way.)
People who call themselves non-analytical often say that they couldn’t do or understand something and that it’s over their head. Nonsense. When supposedly smarter people do or say something that’s over your head, do you think they were born that way? Of course not. They reached that point through education and hard work. It wouldn’t be over your head if you did the same.Analytical intelligence is easy to show off, but other kinds of intelligence are just as important but more subtle. There are also many things you know that the other person doesn’t. I don’t care how smart they are; there are…
In all of human history, the current era stands out for radical innovation. The ongoing AI era is poised to quickly change the world on a more radical level through innovation than what has been done in any previous era.Reflecting on past breakthroughs like the original iPhone, which addressed issues unbeknownst to users, it becomes apparent that such innovations merely scratch the surface of what’s coming. The future holds the promise of even more groundbreaking advancements that will redefine everything in the years ahead. If you wanted to be a part of the radical innovations that happened in prior tech booms,…
The best chess player was not an AI.The best chess player was an AI with a human (a Centaur Team).Chess engines (AKA chess AIs) determined how good/bad a move is by analyzing the possible positions resulting from that move, and then comparing them to the other possible positions resulting from other possible moves.Chess engines didn’t genuinely understand position dynamics like a Grandmaster did, and that led to some positions where a Grandmaster has a better strategy than an engine due to the limits of such brute force.Chess engines didn’t look at position and think, ‘Hmm, this is a really closed…
As Andy Jassy (CEO of Amazon) discusses in Leadership Principles Explained (a short free Audible audiobook), Amazon was struggling with figuring out how to incorporate 3rd Party listings into Amazon’s marketplace.Amazon later realized that they should just incorporate it into Amazon’s main marketplace rather than have it as a separate marketplace. As he admitted, that was a somewhat obvious better solution to what the solutions Amazon was previously pursuing. That’s a classic example of why an outside perspective can be very helpful. When only inside experts are working on something, they miss out on what an outside non-expert would see.Despite Amazon…
There are many types of intelligence essential in business, and each type is mutually exclusive from its opposite type. It’s impossible for one person to excel in every type.If someone is a genius in one type of intelligence, they struggle with another type. The smartest person is also the dumbest person.Individually, it’d be best to have a balance across every type. Collaboratively, it’s better to seek out imbalance. The most productive teams are ones that have a genius/buffoon for each type of intelligence.
