A Collection of Short LinkedIn Posts

The below posts are from oldest to most recent. They are posts I originally made from my LinkedIn account.

Would you rather lose everything except 1 hour of your time, or get infinite money but lose all your time.

Losing everything except 1 hour of your time is infinitely better.

No matter who you are, your time is your base resource.
Open source AIs are very important toward ensuring the good future of AI.

As I discuss at EAGI.fyi, the one good and two bad possible futures of AI will be determined by who gets access to the EAGIs (embodied artificial general intelligences). (In case it's not obvious, AGI doesn't yet exist.)

If some of the most advanced AIs are open source, then that makes the two bad possibilities much less likely.

Shoutout to Mistral AI, InstructLab, Databricks, AI at Meta, and xAI among others for publishing some of the best open source AIs. I look forward to seeing the open source model from OpenAI that Sam Altman was very enthusiastic about at Y Combinator [which has since been released].
For motivating others, default to the carrot.
For motivating yourself, default to the stick.
The 260 file path character limit in Windows is absolute insanity.

It would not be an easy fix, but the fact that it hasn't yet been fixed and software developers have to spend any time working around an embarrassing 260 character limit is ridiculous.

In the age where an LLM outperforms humans in a variety of very complex tasks, we are still unable to organize files beyond 260 characters without breaking applications.
Only the effort you pour into this exact moment is in your hands. Past is settled, future is hypothetical.

Maximum effort is the best you could ever possibly do.

Intimidating? Sure.

Freeing? Absolutely.
It means that Maximum Effort essentially equals success.
Boredom is the most painful emotion someone can feel, but it's very easy to remedy and it is usually only felt in small doses.

Horror movies can be very entertaining. Even very sad and depressing movies can be. But, there's never been an entertaining boring movie.

Pain tolerance isn't just about the ability to handle stress and other exhilarating emotions. It's also about the ability to persevere through boredom.

(A person can't feel a quantity of boredom anywhere near what they can feel in sadness, stress, etc., so boredom is definitely not the most painful emotion in that way.)
Being closed-minded would work if the world didn't change, but it does, every day. Even our knowledge of physics changes at least every year. You have to be radically open-minded, and to be radically open-minded, you have to be mentally tough.

[This post was a repost (with the above description that I wrote) of Ray Dalio's LinkedIn post.]
Business and life are both incredibly complex, and incredibly simple.

At the end of the day, everything we do comes down to one thing: moving muscles strategically.

Whether it's:
• Warren Buffett using his hand muscles to sign a $10B acquisition deal
• Elon Musk using his vocal cords to tell Gwynne Shotwell to push ahead with trying to make Falcon 9 fully reusable
• A pilot using their arm muscles to guide a 400-ton aircraft safely through turbulence

It’s all the same foundation: muscle movement guided by intelligent intent.

When you zoom out, “work” isn’t mysterious. It’s just coordinated motion: the art of moving muscles in the right direction.
My Comments:

Senses are just a way to plan how you should move your muscles.

The same could not be said of embodied AI.
